Drill-Sergeant-Turned-Playboy-Model
Michelle Manhart Says,
‘I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur’

'I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur'—Michelle Manhart

Drill-sergeant-turned-Playboy-model Michelle Manhart has made a career of getting flyboys to stand at attention. Having proudly served our country since 1994, Manhart recently made headlines when the Air Force demoted her for presenting more than just her “arms” in the February issue of Playboy. As feisty as she is fabulous, Manhart stood up for her right to express herself and eventually resigned. Just as passionate about protecting animals from abuse, this first-class fox is the latest recruit to star in an “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ad for PETA.

Manhart posed for the patriotically themed ad—shot by San Antonio photographer Dane Miller—because she believes in liberty and justice for all animals killed for their fur. There’s nothing fair about turning a raccoon or bunny into a coat, cuff, or piece of trim. Animals trapped in the wild for their fur are strangled, beaten, crushed, or drowned. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives in cramped, filthy wire cages and are killed by suffocation, neck-breaking, poisoning, or genital or anal electrocution. Sometimes these crude killing methods only stun the animals, who often “wake up” while they’re being skinned.
