Furs
From PETA Given to Afghan Refugees
Donations of Unwanted Furs Save Lives, Send Pro-Animal Message
Last winter, hundreds of fur coats, hats, blankets, and other fur
garments—donated by people who have had a change of heart about
fur—were packed up at PETA’s world headquarters and shipped
to desperately needy people living in the Barkali Afghan refugee camp,
near the border of northern Pakistan. The camp is located in a very
remote, hilly area … and deaths resulting from exposure are
a fact of life during the bitter cold winter months.
With help from the American Friends Service Committee and from Life
for Relief and Development, PETA sent furs to all 850 families struggling
to survive at the camp. These coats, rejected by former fur-wearers
who can now choose cruelty-free coats, are helping the desperately
poor victims of war stay warm while also making a statement against
the senseless and painful slaughter of innocent animals. No one who
has the luxury of choosing has any business wearing fur, but since
we can’t give the animals their lives back, we opted for offering
warmth to those with no alternatives and no options—and who
might otherwise freeze.
To donate your unwanted fur garment to PETA for future giveaways to
needy people who can’t afford to protect themselves from the
elements, simply mail them to:
