Burberry: Where Animals are the Victims of Fashion

Burberry may be best known for its distinctive plaid, but its use of real fur is making the design house synonymous with cruelty to animals. Burberry continues to use fur in its designs despite the fact that leading clothing retailers like J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Polo Ralph Lauren, and others have pulled fur from their stores forever.

Burberry Fur Poster

Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages, where they are exposed to all weather conditions. They often go without adequate shelter, clean water, veterinary care, or the ability to engage in natural behaviors like climbing, burrowing, and swimming. The intensive confinement causes many of them to go insane.

Fur farmers use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gassing, and poisoning. Many animals are electrocuted by having rods inserted into their rectums and 240 volts sent through their bodies. The animals convulse, shake, and often cry out before they have heart attacks and die. Crude killing methods aren’t always effective, and sometimes animals “wake up” while they are being skinned.

With so many fashionable, comfortable alternatives available, there is no excuse for Burberry to continue using fur. Please take a moment to send a message to Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts. Tell her that you are outraged that Burberry still uses the skins of tortured animals in its clothing and urge her to discontinue the company’s use of real fur.

Tell Burberry’s CEO that you won’t buy from Burberry until it stops selling fur. You can copy and paste the following letter into an e-mail and send it to angela.ahrendts@burberry.com.

Personalized letters always work best. Feel free to use the following text, but your message will carry more weight if you write your own customized message and subject line.

Letter to Burberry

Subject: Stop Torturing Animals!

Body: I was shocked to learn that Burberry continues to use real fur in its designs. There is nothing fashionable or elegant about how animals are killed in the fur industry. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages. Fur farmers use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gassing, and poisoning.

I am disappointed that Burberry is promoting such outdated cruelty to animals when luxurious cruelty-free materials are readily available. Whether it comes from minks, foxes, raccoons, chinchillas, beavers, rabbits, or lynx, fur looks best on its original owners. I refuse to buy anything from Burberry until it removes fur from its collections.

Thank you for standing up for animals by sending an e-mail to Burberry asking the company to stop using real fur in its designs. Looking for more ways to help?

  • Please help us spread the word about Burberry’s use of fur by sending this important information to your friends and family members. Ask them to join you in making compassionate choices a part of their everyday lives.

  • Call Burberry’s office in New York City at 212-757-3700 and tell the company that you’d never support a company that tears animals’ skins off their backs simply to satisfy the vanity of cruel people.

  • Help PETA stop the abuse and suffering of animals by becoming a PETA member today.

  • Send a letter to Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts letting her know that there is nothing fashionable about cruelty to animals:
