Cindy
Crawford: Sell-Out
A desperate model in dire straits?
Cindy Crawford, who once posed for PETA’s Fur Campaign and signed
a statement declaring that she would speak up for animals by refusing
to wear fur, has gone back on her word. She will appear in ads for
coats made out of animals’ stolen fur this fall.
Cindy’s sell-out comes hot on the heels of the release of PETA’s
new graphic undercover video of what happens to animals before their
fur ends up on models’ backs, including footage of a recent
fur
farm investigation in Michigan, which shows chinchillas struggling and
crying as they’re plugged into a wall socket and electrocuted
for their pelts. Minks and foxes are also gassed, strangled, or electrocuted
on fur farms, while raccoons, beavers, and coyotes are trapped, drowned,
and beaten to death in the wild.
In addition to being the face of fur this fall, Cindy also appears
in ads and makes promotional appearances for Omega watches. PETA
has written to Omega to ask whether the company means to
associate itself with and support cruelty to animals in having such
a controversial fur proponent as its spokesperson or whether
it objects to the use of fur. Please read PETA’s
letter and write a note of your own to the company:
