Mates of State Declare ‘We’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur’
Kori and Jason of Mates of State have been muses for many a hipster’s late-night journal scribblings on what it would be like to rock out for a living side-by-side with your partner. From their love-gaze-filled shows to their "finish each other’s sentences" interviews, they are truly an indie rock dream.
Mates of State are also a dream for animals, because they can’t stand fur. They want people to drop the pelts of tortured animals from their wardrobe so badly that they were not afraid to make a statement by taking it all off for the cause and teaming up with PETA for our latest "We’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" ad.
Why are Kori and Jason so passionate about being anti-fur? On fur farms in China, where most fur originates, minks, foxes, rabbits, and other animals are kept in tiny wire cages through all weather extremes. They are strangled, bludgeoned, and often skinned while they are still alive. Since fur is often deliberately mislabeled, if you wear fur, there’s no way to tell whose skin you’re in—it could have even once belonged to a cat or dog.
