Join PETA and Stella McCartney for the World’s First ‘Virtual’ Anti-Fur Protest

Join PETA and Stella McCartney for the World’s First ’Virtual’ Anti-Fur Protest

PETA has teamed up with lifelong supporter of animal rights Stella McCartney to cohost the world’s first virtual anti-fur protest on Second Life. Your can join the protest now through July 29.

This groundbreaking event is taking place on a specially created island within Second Life’s 3-D online world. Visitors to the island—which is inspired by the English countryside, with stables, picnic tables, and a Linda McCartney veggie-burger stand—can show their support for PETA in many different "virtual" ways. All visitors will receive a goodie bag full of cool anti-fur accessories, which their Second Life characters can use to spread the anti-fur message to the 7 million residents of the online community. Visitors may donate money in Linden dollars—the community’s currency—which PETA will be able to exchange for real U.S. dollars to help real animals, and they’ll be able to dress their characters in T-shirts designed especially for this event, with the slogan "I’d rather be pixelated than wear fur."

In addition to all the virtual world fun, there are real-world prizes to be won. From July 12 to 19, we’re holding a competition on the island for a new PETA slogan based on the iconic tagline "I’d rather go naked than wear fur." Prizes include two tickets to McCartney’s spring 2008 runway show in Paris, one of the designer’s popular Appaloosa bags, and her entire Care skin care line.

The Stella McCartney-PETA Island will be open on Second Life from July 12 to 29. Visitors can access the island by creating a Second Life account below.
