Swatch, Taylor, Burton, and Miller Agree: Time to Go Fur-Free

Swiss watchmaker Swatch, Burton Snowboards, and fashion giants Rebecca Taylor and Nicole Miller have made the compassionate decision never again to use fur in their designs.

After learning from PETA how animals who are killed for their fur are treated, these companies realized that cruelty to animals and fashion just aren’t compatible. In a letter to PETA, Swatch’s Chief Operating Officer Reto J. Stöckli wrote, “Swatch Ltd. and the Swatch Group Ltd. do not want to be associated with cruelty to animals.”

Swatch, Rebecca Taylor, Nicole Miller, and Burton are now part of a growing group of compassionate companies that have adopted fur-free policies, including Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, Forever 21, J.Crew, Gap Inc., Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, and many others.

Companies are pledging to go fur-free after learning how millions of rabbits, minks, and other fur-bearing animals are subjected to miserable conditions in the name of fashion each year. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages and often go without clean water and veterinary care. At the end of their miserable lives, these animals are killed using the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gassing, and poisoning.

What You Can Do

Swatch, Rebecca Taylor, Nicole Miller, and Burton have pledged to stop selling fur in favor of animal-friendly alternatives, but unfortunately, many others in the clothing industry have yet to make this promise.

Burberry may be best known for its distinctive plaid, but its use of real fur is making the design house synonymous with cruelty to animals. The company knows about the suffering that goes into every fur-trimmed coat, hat, and bag, yet it continues to use fur in its designs.

Please tell Burberry that there is no excuse for continuing to use dead, tortured animals in its designs.
